Harpenden Skinfold Calipers

Do you compete in a weight category? Do you know the ideal weight category for you? Do you know how much lean tissue you have? Do you know how much body fat you can realistically lose each week, and how? Do you know how much of this equates to the weight you need to lose?

Information on how much of your weight is made up from body fat, working out how much this equates to in lbs/kg’s. All info will be given as it’s taken, as well as logging it for periodic re-testing.

This is essential information for anyone interested in competing inside a weight class. It is an excellent tool for people looking to set realistic healthy goals which progress you can then monitor. Often when people begin a new diet and start training their bodyweight can remain the same while their body composition changes in a positive way. This is a perfect tool to measure that progress.

What Is a skinfold measurement?

Skinfold or pinch testing is an anthropometric methods for estimating body fat. Several points across the body are measured to determine the thickness of the subcutaneous fat layer. These are then converted to a body fat percentage by an equation. Our skinfold tests are always all carried out using the proper Harpenden Skinfold Callipers, these are a precision instrument designed for this use. This method does have a margin for error however we believe this to be much lower than the bioelectrical analysis which can be hugely influenced by other factors such as hydration. With the measurements always being carried out by the same person at the same sites this is a perfect way to measure change in body composition over time.

All tests and measurements are confidential and will be carried out in a private area. If you need further from a nutritionist or are looking for follow up advice on personal training, strength & conditioning we are able to help.
